The Twos found a resounding return to the winner’s column on Saturday, hosting third-in-the-West Colorado Rapids 2 and prevailing in a 2-1 match. Now they head down south to take on North Texas SC, hoping for a dash of revenge after the reigning champs beat the Loons at home earlier this season. With a first-team showdown against Dallas on tap for the following day, the Twos will look to once again demonstrate their ability to dominate the pitch in the absence of major first-team reinforcements, who are navigating a heavily saturated schedule of their own this summer.
In MNUFC2’s fantastic last showing, forward Luke Hille’s second-minute header off a corner by Curt Calov put him in the club lead for goals scored (4). Recent signing Momoh Kamara scored in only his second appearance, doubling the Loons’ lead in the 72nd minute with a left-footed shot off Calov’s assist. Calov now leads the club with six assists, tying him for second in MLSNP.
Meanwhile, North Texas forward Sam Sarver has logged a whopping nine goals in 15 appearances this season, tying him for second in the league. Additionally, he leads the league in penalty kick goals scored (5) and is second in shots on target (20).
Despite Sarver’s scoring heroics and the club’s current standing at fourth in the West, North Texas suffered through a winless June, falling once at home and twice on the road with a single draw that saw them grab an extra point in a shootout against the Rapids. NTSC will be desperate to put in a solid three-pointer on the home pitch, but they’ll be contending with a Minnesota side that has lost only once on the road this season.
