MNUFC2 announced today that the club has named Nathan Smith as the team’s Assistant Coach.

“We are excited to add Nathan to our second team staff,” said MNUFC Head of Development and Player Pathway, Amos Magee. “His multi-cultural background and breadth of experience in all levels of soccer will bring immeasurable benefits to our developmental space here at Minnesota United.”

“It is an honor to join the Minnesota United family. I’m thrilled to bring my experience to a club with such a clear, ambitious vision,” said Assistant Coach Nathan Smith. “My main focus will be supporting Khaled El-Ahmad, Amos Magee, Justin Ferguson and Fanendo Adi in cultivating an environment where talent can truly thrive. I deeply believe in the philosophy here, and I can't wait to get to work.”

With over 20 years of experience developing and mentoring amateur and professional athletes, Nathan Smith joins MNUFC2 as the Assistant Coach under Head Coach Fanendo Adi. Smith most recently was the associate head coach for the University of South Carolina’s men’s soccer team, where he served as the leader of the squad since August of 2025. Smith joined USC’s program in 2023.

Prior to his time with South Carolina, Smith was the head of IMG Academy’s MLS NEXT program from 2021-23, where he helped apply and integrate methodology across 24 teams, helping develop a number of players and assisting them before going on to play collegiately or professionally.

Smith also has experience at the developmental level in MLS, having previously worked with Atlanta United within their academy system. With Atlanta, he served as a manager, Homegrown Player development coach and also an academy coach from 2020-21.

Smith currently holds both a USSF National A License and a USSF Academy Director License.
