Minnesota United will look to build off its 2019 success as it begins its 2020 campaign on the road against the Portland Timbers. The teams last met just over a week ago during the Portland preseason tournament, where the Loons thrashed the Timbers 4-2, led by a brace from Raheem Edwards. MNUFC went undefeated against the Timbers in 2019 getting back-to-back home wins in league and Open Cup play and holding on for a dramatic scoreless draw at Providence Park. Both teams will be looking for redemption after being knocked out in the opening round of the MLS Cup Playoffs last year, and a strong road start for MNUFC would get the momentum rolling for a repeat postseason appearance.
