After a week off, the Minnesota United Development Academy U13 and U14 sides returned to action on Saturday, June 2 against FC United Soccer Club at Waukegan Sports Park in Waukegan, Illinois, and came away from the weekend set with a draw and a hard-fought loss.


MNUFC U13 vs. FC United Soccer Club

In the first match of the weekend, the Loons went back and forth with FC United before settling for a 2-2 draw. FC United’s Kacper Los opened the scoring in the ninth minute, but MNUFC’s Micah Burton responded in the 34th minute to equalize. The tie did not last long though, as FCUSC’s Jack Monahan re-gained the lead for his side in the 39th minute. Trailing, 2-1, Burton’s second goal of the match drew Minnesota level at two just after halftime in the 49th minute and closed out the scoring.


MNUFC U14 vs. FC United Soccer Club

After MNUFC came back from an early deficit, two FC United second half goals sunk the Loons’ U14 team in a 3-1 loss to wrap up the Academy’s weekend. FCUSC’s Alem Hadzic opened the scoring via a penalty kick in the 30th minute, but after re-grouping at the half, Minnesota’s Daniel Lainsbury provided an equalizer in the 46th minute. With the match level at one, FC United’s Mark Hrvojevic took the game over, scoring the match-winner in the 58th minute and adding a dagger in the 72nd minute to hand MNUFC a two-goal setback.


Next up for the U13 and U14 teams are matches against their counterparts from Sockers FC on Sunday, June 10 at St. Catherine University Soccer Field in St. Paul. Start times for the matches have yet to be announced. The full schedules for both programs can be found on the Academy website.


MNUFC announced the trial dates for its Development Academy (DA) teams and assessment dates for the Pre-Development Academy program. Trials will be for U13 (2006), U14 (2005) and U15 (2004) DA teams, along with placement trials for the U11 (2008) and U12 (2007) Pre-Development Academy programs.
