MNUFC2 is back in Blaine following their Texas road trip, with Whitecaps FC 2 set to visit the National Sports Center Wednesday, May 28 at 7:00 p.m. CT. The Twos will be looking to secure their first home win of the season in an effort to rediscover the form that saw them earn four wins out of four to start the year.
Though they’re still lagging behind the rest of MLS NEXT Pro in games played, MNUFC2 has the third-best points per game record in the Western Conference (1.86), behind only conference leaders Ventura County and North Texas. Their fixture frequency is about to pick up considerably, with a pair of matches this week against Vancouver and Tacoma Defiance. With a month separating Head Coach Jeremy Hall and his side from their last win, they’ll be itching to reverse their fortunes and pick up some positive form this week.
Whitecaps FC 2 have been on a very up-and-down run recently, losing twice to a solid Ventura County side and picking up a 5-0 win over Tacoma. The ‘Caps haven’t been using many household names on their MLSNP side in 2025, opting to develop a crop of players in their early 20s, with some fringe first-teamers earning minutes in this developmental league.
With a busy schedule taking the majority of MNUFC’s first-team players to the Pacific Northwest this week, the Twos will likely have to make due with a thinner squad than they’ve grown accustomed to, giving some younger players the opportunity to take the spotlight. But, after a solid showing against Austin on the weekend, Coach Hall remains confident in his group. He had nothing but praise for them following their draw last time out.
“We battled and competed from the first minute, and that’s what we were looking for, especially after our last performance against St. Louis [CITY2] – just being more nasty in tackling and running [more intensely], and we did that,” Hall said. “It’s always hard to come down to Texas and play here with the heat and against a really good team. We had a young squad, a lot of [guys out due to] injuries, a suspension [from last week] and we had a really young group down here – an all-Academy bench – and the guys went down a goal and we still competed well and tied it. We almost scored at the end if it wasn’t offside. I was really happy with the guys.”
The Loons and the ‘Caps are 10th and 11th, respectively, in the Western Conference, making this midweek showdown a great opportunity for either side to start climbing the standings.
