Kage Romanshyn was named MLS NEXT Rising Star of Matchday 27 for his stellar performance against Sporting Kansas City II on Sunday evening.

Romanshyn was named an MLS NEXT All-Star this year, plays for the MNUFC Academy U19 team and often plays up with MNUFC2 – which certainly worked out well for the Twos on Sunday after he scored the winning goal.

The 18-year-old midfielder from Apple Valley has made 10 appearances with MNUFC2 this season, notably assisting on the first goal of the 2023 campaign and making an impact whether he has started or come off the bench.

This past Sunday, his presence was truly felt, and his contributions pushed the Loons to an important three points.

In the 33rd minute, Kage assisted on the first goal of the night when he slotted a through-ball to an overlapping Juan Mosquera.

In the 73rd minute, Romanshyn received the ball at the edge of the box and was able to control it out of the air before firing a quick shot into the corner. Not only did his goal solidify a Loons victory in their last regular season home game, but it just so happened to be his first-ever MNUFC2 goal.

Congratulations to Kage for this great honor, it is well-deserved!
