If there’s one thing that connects people all over the world, it’s food. With a squad whose roots extend to 14 different countries, there’s a lot of diversity when it comes to the kitchens and taste buds of the Loons. Nothing hits the spot quite like a home-cooked meal.

Here are a few of the fellas’ favorite recipes, including links to how to make them.

Abu Danladi: Jollof Rice

“I like a lot of rice. I eat a lot of rice. My favorite food probably is jollof rice, which is a Ghanian — it’s mostly like an African meal — but it’s cooked with rice, some tomatoes. You just mix it up with some meat and stuff. That’s what I like to eat.”

Ismaila Jome: Domoda

“I eat a lot of rice, too. My favorite dish is called domoda. It’s this Gambian dish. The translation is 'peanut butter soup.' It sounds weird, but it’s really good if you try it. Most people who try it, think it’s really good. It’s just like a soup and then you put it on rice. My parents made that for me.”

Michael Boxall: Salmon Sashimi

“Okay, so I’ve got a big family — my mom’s side of the family is pretty big. Get-togethers are always 30, 40 people. I’m trying to think of the best way to describe it. It’s kind of like a salmon sashimi. Like raw fish, just marinated. And that’s pretty good. My mom made it. Pretty much anyone on my mom’s side of the family can make it. It’s usually one of the first dishes gone at family gatherings. We probably have family gatherings at least once a month — it’s always something to look forward to.”

Kevin Molino: Curry and Rice, Macaroni Pie, Stew Chicken

“My favorite food is curry and rice. I ate it on Indian Arrival Day [a national holiday in Trinidad and Tobago on May 30], but I like it every day. I actually have two favorite Sunday dishes. Macaroni pie and stew chicken and rice. Sometimes I cook it here, when I have the energy to cook after training.”
