Abu Danladi Named to Team of the Week

With a pair of goals in Minnesota’s first road win in MLS, Abu Danladi earned a spot in the Week 25 edition of MLS Team of the Week. This is the forward’s first time being named to the Team of the Week.

Danladi notched his fourth and fifth goals of the season as the Loons soared to a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Fire on Saturday night. His first came in the 36th minute when the ball fell favorably to Ethan Finlay after his cross was blocked. This allowed the Minnesota-born midfielder to feed an easy pass to Danladi for a wide-open shot on goal.

Nine minutes later, the #1 overall draft pick put away his second of the night, thanks to a cross from Jerome Thiesson. A give-and-go between Finlay and Thiesson allowed the Swiss defender an opening to drill in a low cross toward Danladi, who had slipped past three Fire defenders in the middle of the box. A blistering burst of speed allowed the young forward to reach the ball with his outstretched foot and redirect it into the back of Chicago’s net, giving Minnesota a 2-0 lead at halftime.
