For his role in Minnesota United’s clean sheet win over Orlando City, defender Francisco Calvo has been named to the MLS Team of the Week for Week 13. Calvo was a stalwart in the backline of MNUFC — stopping a dangerous Orlando striking duo — and a big contributor on the offensive side of the ball.
On the defensive side, the Costa Rican international was lights out. He made five crucial tackles and intercepted five passes on Saturday night, frustrating the Orlando attackers. He wasn’t afraid to show off a bit of skill with the ball either and pulled off a few impressive moves to beat defenders and create some offensive chances.
Calvo becomes the seventh MNUFC player to earn Team of the Week honors this season. Most recently, Miguel Ibarra and Bobby Shuttleworth were on the team for their efforts in the club’s 1-0 win over Sporting KC in Week 10.
