After months of anticipation and build up, the 2017 MLS expansion clubs Minnesota United and Atlanta United will meet for the first time on Sunday at TCF Bank Stadium. Each club has been built on a different philosophy, and have been the subject of many comparisons during the preseason. Like Minnesota, Atlanta was defeated in its opening match, falling 2-1 to the New York Red Bulls at home. Atlanta led much of the match with a goal from Yamil Asad, but the Red Bulls came back with a pair of goals in the final 15 minutes to spoil Atlanta’s home opener. There is still lots of uncertainty surrounding both clubs early in the season, and both will be hungry for three points on Sunday.
