The MLS Team of the Matchday has been revealed by the league and center back Micky Tapias is on that short list of outstanding performances for week 4 of the 2023 MLS season. The well-deserved honor comes on the heels of another fantastic performance on the defensive end of the pitch. But, the game-winning header in the late moments of a tightly contested match in Colorado would prove to be the difference maker for the Loons to get their first win at Dick’s Sporting Goods Stadium in their MLS history.

Coach Adrian Heath sang the praises of one of his newest backs. Clearly in his short time in Minnesota, Micky has made an impression on the gaffer in terms of his play, and his comedic sensibilities. “I like him. I really like him. He’s funny, he’s aggressive. Now I have to learn Spanish, but I like him a lot.” But, comedy aside, his play has made the kind of impact on the manager and the Loons overall. “It’s just defending overall. For me personally, I pride myself in defending. I think Boxy [Michael Boxall], Micky [Miguel Tapias] all of those guys are passionate about it. We don’t want to give up anything at all. We know that in any game you play, sometimes the games are so tight that a set piece is the only opportunity, so we’ve got to really mark up and do better. It’s just one that we’ve got to live with.”

Defensive prowess aside, this beauty is another welcome part of Tapias’ arsenal that Loons fans are more than happy to have on board:

Even in a small sample size of three games, the effect the former Pachuca center back is having on MNUFC has proven vital to the Loons early season success in the 2023 season. Hopefully, it’s just the beginning of the memorable moments that Tapias can make throughout the rest of the season.

Bravo, Micky!
