The month of September was jam-packed with community initiatives. From galas, to fundraisers, to community events, MNUFC continued its efforts to give back to the Twin Cities. To help keep you in the loop, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite moments over the past month.
MNUFC Unified Team, presented by BCBS MN, Travels to San Jose
Starting off the month strong, on September 2, MNUFC’s Unified team got to experience what it was like to travel with the first team and take on an opponent on unfamiliar grounds. The Unified team flew to San Jose with the first team, saw some California sights, and competed against the San Jose Unified team in an exciting match that saw them clinch a 2-1 victory.
Xcel Energy Day of Service
On September 8, MNUFC volunteers joined with Xcel Energy to give one of the MACV homes for veterans a nice refresh. Those who participated did yard clean-up, mulching, sanding and restaining of the back deck, and washing of the windows/window sills.
U.S. Soccer – Boot Drive
On September 12, U.S. Soccer and Minnesota United teamed up to collect cleats and winter boots during the U.S. Men's National Team game at Allianz Field, which were then donated to The Sanneh Foundation. These gently worn boots will provide footwear to people within the community, who may not otherwise have the resources to secure them.
OutFront Minnesota Gala
On September 14, OutFront Minnesota, the state’s largest LGBTQ+ advocacy organization, hosted their 2023 Gala at Allianz Field. It was a wonderful event, and MNUFC/Allianz Field team members put great care into making sure the gala went off without a hitch.
Keystone & Allianz – Free Farmers Market
On September 15, Allianz Field hosted their final Free Farmers Market food drive of the year. Allianz and Minnesota United provided volunteers, while Keystone Community Services provided the food.
MNUFC Unified Team, presented by BCBS MN, Home Game
On September 16, the MNUFC Unified Team had an inter-squad match after the first team game against Sporting Kansas City. It was a match filled with quality plays and epic goal celebrations, and team Night Kit took home the 3-1 win against team Purple.
Fiesta Latina
On September 16, MNUFC popped into Fiesta Latina with a booth and giveaways for attendees. Fiesta Latina is a free community festival for celebrating Latino culture through arts, food, entertainment, health and community resources, sports activities and more!
Minnesota’s Community Sports Get Together
On September 21, all the Community Engagement teams of pro sports clubs in the Twin Cities came together to discuss how they can work together to create an even greater impact. The teams met on the best ways to collaborate with one another and use each other as resources to help build the community.
Gillette’s Children Walk and Roll
On September 23, PK made an appearance at the Gillette Children’s Walk and Roll, where he cheered on Gillette families and patients as they made their way around the Viking Lakes.
Kick Childhood Cancer Jersey Auction
From September 25 to October 1, MNUFC auctioned player-worn and signed Kick Childhood Cancer jerseys with all proceeds going to Children’s Cancer Research Fund.
CAPI - Give and Grow Gala
On September 28, CAPI held their Give and Grow Gala and MNUFC staff were able to attend. For over 40 years, CAPI has provided critical resources to immigrants, refugees, and underserved communities of color in the Twin Cities. We were honored to attend such an important event and support the organization's great work.
