Minnesota United and Major League Soccer announced today that MNUFC midfielder Emanuel Reynoso was voted MLS Player of the Week for Week 21 of the 2022 MLS Season.

Since returning from the international break, Reynoso has been the engine driving Minnesota United's resurgence in the standings, where they now sit in third place in the Western Conference. Before the international break, the team was just hoping to get in on the playoffs conversation. That right there is an example of the importance Reynoso holds for the squad...simply put, the guy is a game changer.

Last Saturday, Reynoso registered his third brace in five games as part of the club’s 2-0 win at Allianz Field against D.C. United. In fact, since June 28, Reynoso has the only player in MLS to score at least two goals in three separate matches, leading MNUFC to wins in all three of those games.

The midfielder is also making club history, as he becomes the first player to score at least two goals in three separate matches during the same season. His six goal contributions (four goals, two assists) in the month of July are tied for the most in MLS, and his four goals rank behind only New York City FC’s Valentín Castellanos. Reynoso was one of two players to score a brace in Week 21 action.

Reynoso scored his first goal of the match in the 13th minute when he played a header to Luis Amarilla, who produced an acrobatic flick into his path, which Reynoso then volleyed with the outside of his foot and into the corner of the net.

Just after halftime in the 50th minute, Reynoso extended the Loons lead to 2-0 after Amarilla cut past a defender in the box and laid off a pass to the Argentine, who took one touch to create space and then delicately placed a shot past the sprawling D.C. United goalkeeper.

AND...Reynoso is the second Minnesota player to win MLS Player of the Week presented by Continental Tire this season, joining goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair, who took home the award in Week 3. Not only did he get his first MLS Player of the Week presented by Continental Tire in his career, but Reynoso was also named to the Week 21 MLS Team of the Week.

What else is there to say besides...el Rey is en fuego right now!
