Minnesota United’s MLS NEXT Pro team, MNUFC2, will compete in the 2024 edition of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup after an agreement was reached between Major League Soccer and U.S. Soccer.

MLS and U.S. Soccer have reached an agreement that will see eight MLS clubs and 11 MLS NEXT Pro teams – including MNUFC2 – in the Open Cup for 2024:

  • MLS Clubs - The eight MLS clubs will include Houston Dynamo FC (last year’s Open Cup champion) and the top seven ranked U.S.-based teams on the 2023 Supporters’ Shield Standings: Atlanta United FC, FC Dallas, Sporting Kansas City, LAFC, Real Salt Lake, San Jose Earthquakes and Seattle Sounders FC. Teams participating in the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup will be exempt from participating.
  • MLS NEXT Pro Clubs - The 11 participating MLS NEXT Pro teams will include nine MLS affiliates: Austin FC II, Chicago Fire FC II, Colorado Rapids 2, Crown Legacy FC, LA Galaxy II, MNUFC2, NYCFC II, New York Red Bulls II and Timbers2. The two independent clubs are Carolina Core FC and Chattanooga FC. The nine MLS-affiliated teams competing will be based on the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro final standings, other than those clubs whose MLS first teams are participating in either the 2024 U.S. Open Cup or 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup.

More information, including the draw for match opponents, dates and times for MNUFC2 in the U.S. Open Cup will be released at a future date.
