MNUFC2 closed out the regular season in dominant fashion at the National Sports Center Stadium, defeating Sporting Kansas City II 3-1 behind a strong first-half showing that featured goals from Kage Romanshyn Jr., Kieran Chandler and Logan Dorsey. The Twos came out on the front foot, dictating play from the opening whistle and maintaining control throughout the match to cap off their historic campaign. With the win, MNUFC2 now turns its attention to the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs, their first postseason appearance in club history, as they look to carry their momentum into the knockout stage.
3’ - MNUFC2 recorded their first shot on target early in the match after Kage Romanshyn Jr. was fouled on the left flank of the 18-yard box. Kieran Chandler stepped up to take the free kick and made contact with Romanshyn Jr., but goalkeeper Jacob Molinaro was able to collect the ball comfortably.
7’ - The Twos continued the early pressure as Darius Randell sent Chandler on a run alone in the box. Chandler struck the ball and connected with Sporting Kansas City II goalkeeper Molinaro’s right foot, which created a rebound for Chandler, who then sent it over the crossbar and out.
11’ - MNUFC2 created another dangerous scoring chance from a free kick that found Randell on the right side of the box, who delivered a cross towards the net that connected with Logan Dorsey near the goal line. Molinaro made the save and created a rebound attempt for Alexis Fariña, who took a shot that was ultimately blocked by Shane Donovan and resulted in a corner kick.
20’ (1-0) - After some bouncing around in the middle third, Mamadou Dieng got space to make a long through pass to Logan Dorsey on the right flank. Dorsey took a few touches and found himself in the penalty box. Dorsey switched the ball for Kieran Chandler, who was unmarked, and pushed it over the line and into the net.
27’ (2-0) - Dorsey doubled the lead from the penalty spot with a strike aimed toward the right-center of the net, beating Molinaro. The penalty was earned by Chandler, who drove into the box from the left side before being pulled down by an SKC II defender.
33’ - SKC II created their first dangerous scoring chance as Hal Uderitz sent a ball into the box to Pierre Lurot, who shot the ball towards the far side of Rizvanovich’s net. The shot was saved by Rizvanovich’s right foot, deflecting back into play, and leading to a clearance.
34’ - SKC II created their first dangerous scoring opportunity as Hal Uderitz sent a ball into the box for Pierre Lurot, who fired a shot toward the far post. Goalkeeper Rizvanovich made a crucial save with his right foot, deflecting the ball back into play before it was cleared by the defense.
48’ (3-0) - MNUFC2 opened the second half with another goal as Kage Romanshyn Jr. unleashed a low shot from outside the 18-yard box toward the near post, beating Molinaro’s diving attempt.
51’ (3-1) - Sporting Kansas City II pulled one back through Anthony Samways after Carter Derksen advanced into the attacking third down the left flank. Derksen switched play to Samways, who tapped the ball over the line.
64’ - SKC II came close again when Medgy Alexandre drove into the left side of the box and fired a powerful shot toward the far post, but Rizvanovich reacted quickly, diving to his left to deflect the ball and preserve the two-goal lead.
85’ - The Twos continued applying pressure late in the match as Mamadou Dieng intercepted a defensive miscue inside the SKC II box. Dieng took two touches to his right before sending a shot just over the top-right corner of Molinaro’s net.
