MNUFC2 couldn’t make a comeback and capture three points, losing 2-3 to St. Louis CITY2 during a midday fixture at the National Sports Center Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Twos were able to come back from a two goal defficit after CITY2 conceded an own goal, followed by Curt Calov’s leveler, but Minnesota was unable to break through, and CITY2’s Miguel Perez scored the winning goal. Next, the Twos will host Whitecaps FC 2 for a midweek matchup on May 28 at 7:00 p.m. CT.
8’ - MNUFC2 found their first chance to goal after sending the ball into the 18-yard box from the corner, finding Luke Hille in the middle of the box for a header straight to goal. Hille aimed straight for CITY 2 goalkeeper Christian Olivars for an easy save.
9’ - After a St. Louis CITY2 giveaway in their own defensive third, forward Loïc Mesanvi dribbled towards goal and struck his first shot of the day, forcing Olivares to make his second save by forcing the ball out for a MNUFC2 corner kick.
22’ (0-1) - St. Louis scored the opening goal of the midday fixture after Minnesota conceded a penalty kick. Mykhi Joyner stepped up taking the free kick, converting the penalty into a goal for the opposition.
27’ - Right winger Darius Randell combined with Hille at the top of the box, forcing CITY2 to block a Randell shot on goal, which deflected out for a corner kick.
28’ (0-2) - CITY2 doubled their lead after quickly capitalizing on the counter-attack, Joyner quickly dribbled the ball up the pitch and fired off a shot from the left flank, burying the ball in the back of the goal.
31’ - The Twos continue to pose a threat in front of goal after Randell took the ball inside, dribbling towards the 18-yard box, but pushed off by St. Louis, leaving the ball for Hille to swiftly pick up and fire off a close-range shot from the right side of the box. Hille’s shot hit off the far post and was captured by Olivares before crossing the line.
45’ + 1’ (1-2) - MNUFC2 opened up their score tally after Curt Calov struck a cross across the face of goal, causing chaos in the CITY2 penalty area. After a goal line clearance attempt from Gabriel Mikina, the ball ricocheted off St. Louis defender Emil Jääskeläinen into the net for an own goal.
63’ - Calov gained possession inside Minnesota’s attacking half, ripping a dangerous shot from distance. The midfielder’s shot from distance kept Olivares on his toes with a quick save, touching the ball over the top of goal.
71’ (2-2) - MNUFC2 scored the equalizer after Calov earned a free kick at the top of the box. Calov scored his first professional goal for MNUFC2 by tucking his free kick into the bottom right corner past Olivares.
72’ - CITY2 responded quickly after Calov’s goal, following up with a slow rolling shot off of the left post from Lorenzo Cornelius.
