Minnesota United begins its U.S. Open Cup journey on Wednesday night, facing off against familiar opponent Sporting Kansas City in the tournament’s Fourth Round. This is fourth Open Cup meeting between MNUFC and SKC since 2014, and the 10th in all competitions. Minnesota is looking to find its early season goalscoring pace and build momentum at home against injury plagued Sporting during this break from league play. However, SKC has been one of the most competitive MLS teams in this competition, tied with Chicago and Seattle with four titles each. The Loons get their chance to host an Open Cup game for the first time since 2016, and will want to start a new chapter of success in the competition at their new home.
