Minnesota United will play the first of rare back-to-back games with the same team as it host the Portland Timbers on Sunday. This league meeting between the squads will preview the Open Cup Semifinal on Wednesday, also at Allianz Field. Both teams are unbeaten in their last six games, but the Loons have not claimed victory since July 13. The Timbers break from a home-heavy second half schedule to travel to Saint Paul, where points have been scarce for the visitors. Portland has been surging up the standings after a slow start, and sit just four points behind Minnesota. The Loons have their eyes set on a home playoff game in October, but will need to get back to their winning ways to keep up the momentum in the final half of the season.
