academy recap week 4

Playing their third home games of the season, the Minnesota United U13 and U14 Development Academies both registered wins over their rival sides from Saint Louis FC Missouri this past Saturday at the National Sports Center in Blaine.

MNUFC U14 DA 2 – 1 Saint Louis FC Missouri

After a scoreless opening half hour, the two U14 sides looked likely to head into halftime deadlocked before Minnesota’s Micah Burton opened the scoring in the 35th minute to give the Loons a lead they never relinquished. Tamer Ibsais followed up Burton’s strike after half in the 49th minute. Up 2-0, MNUFC conceded an own goal in the closing moments of the game in the 78th minute, but that was as close as Saint Louis came.

MNUFC U13 DA 2 – 0 Saint Louis FC Missouri

Two first half goals was all the Minnesota U13 Development Academy needed to dispatch Saint Louis and complete the undefeated weekend. Ian Shaul got the Loons on the board first in the 12th minute and Jabari Kibisu doubled the MNUFC advantage just before the break in the 35th minute. From there, Minnesota’s stout defense and goalkeeping took over and saw the clean sheet through until the final whistle.

Next up for the U13 and U14 Development Academies are games against their counterparts from the Minnesota Thunder Academy on Saturday, October 13 at 9 and 11 a.m., respectively, at the Academy of Holy Angels Dome Field in Richfield.
