7 Matchups to Pencil Into the Calendar

The weather outside is frightful, but there’s only for a few more weeks until it isn’t (hopefully). With the drop of the 2023 MLS regular season schedule there are a number of matchups that standout for the months ahead. Let’s preview, shall we?

2/25 @ FC Dallas

Revenge is a dish best served…shortly thereafter. While a positive outcome won’t erase the painful memory of the Loons’ heartbreaking playoff loss last season, it would definitely give the 2023 season a shot in the arm, right off the bat.

3/11 vs. New York Red Bulls

Not much more to say about this one other than “home opener.” Never underestimate the power of the Loons home-field advantage. Join us, won’t you?

4/1 @ St. Louis CITY

A matchup with the new kids on the block, at their house. Conveniently scheduled on April Fool’s Day. Sounds like the perfect opportunity to fool them into thinking they have a shot at winning this one.

5/20 @ Portland

When the Timbers visited Allianz Field last July, both squads pushed each other to the limit and provided the home crowd and a national television audience to the most exciting draw in recent memory with a 4-4 barnburner. Hopefully the offensive potency carries over to the new season, and that potency is on Pacific Time.

5/31 @ Austin

Let’s keep Austin weird, by taking down one of the most talented squads in the Western Conference like we did last season. This season, it’s at their house. Alright? Alright, alright alright.

7/15 vs. LAFC

The champs are here…and there’s no better opportunity to give them a nice, hot cup of reality in the form of an upset courtesy of the boys in black and blue.

10/7 vs. LA Galaxy

Last season, the Loons trip out west to play the Galaxy was a turning point for Emanuel Reynoso’s ability to find the back of the net and an upswing in the Loons 2022 successes. Hopefully, by the time they come to visit us at the end of the 2023 season, we’ll be locking in our top seed in the Western Conference and prepping for playoff domination.

10/21 @ Sporting KC

Hey there, Decision Day…how you doin’? “The most friendly rivalry in sports” seems to have a little more skin in the game for the finale of the 2023 regular season. Hopefully, there will be very little concern in terms of playoff placement when this match rolls around this year.
