DJ TAYLOR: 10 things you don’t know about me

DJ Taylor

1. My go-to music I listen to while I’m driving is …

“Drake. I’m a huge Drake fan. If Drake had another son, it would be me. Everybody on the team is finding out that I know almost all the lyrics to the Drake songs.”

2. The inspiration behind my clothing brand came from …

“It’s kind of just because of COVID. Obviously, COVID happened and we were off for, like, three months. So, I was like, what am I going to do with all this extra time? And I’ve always told my friends, I want to do a clothing brand as an idea one day. So, I was like, what would it really look like if I really did it? So that’s how it came to be today. I released my own personal brand last year and then this year will be a new one that’s more streetwear clothing. It’s called Venci. The website is up but has a password on it because we haven’t released yet, but we’re supposed to be releasing in a month or two. Our Instagram is venciofficialclothing.”

3. The best piece of life advice I have ever received is …

“I don’t know, there’s a lot. My kind of motto, which is tied to my brand now, is turn your dreams into reality. I got that from a video with Rio Ferdinand talking about how once you reach your goals, don’t be satisfied with who you are, set new ones and continue to pursue those. That’s kind of where I got that. I do have another one, it’s by Inky Johnson. Keep striving to continually to be a better version of yourself. Every transition in life deserves a better me. So that’s good for anybody. Every transition of your life deserves a better you, and that’s obviously the goal. To be the best person you can be, every day. That’s kind of what our brand is about as well. It’s about self-improvement and growth.”

4. If I could live anywhere in the world, it would be …

“I’d probably go back to Valencia, Spain, where I lived for two years. That was an incredible experience and it’s the best place ever.”

5. The personality trait I’m most proud of is …

“I’m a very open person, so I can connect with people very well and I enjoy connecting and networking with people. That’s why I think there’s a job for me to do after soccer. Maybe an agent or something. To just network and help people create mutually beneficial relationships. It allows me to connect with anyone I meet. I’m all about vibes and stuff, so if their vibe is cool, then we’re going to get along perfectly fine.”

6. My everyday ritual is …

“Usually when I wake up, one of the first things I do is I read my 365-devotional book on the Bible. My uncle, who lives up with my mom, he gets me one every Christmas. So I’ll have one for 365 days. I get him one, too. Then I usually just pray in the morning. Pray at night. And, pray before I eat.”

7. My favorite meal is …

“I like wings, barbeque wings. Or, me and my mom had a tradition of always getting riblets from Applebee’s when I was really young, when it was just me and her. So I’ll always like ribs. Now my little brother loves it, too. She’ll go with my little brother. He’s nine, so it’s funny to see that.”

8. My favorite thing to shop for is …

“I only do my shopping online unless it’s pants or shorts because you have to try those on. But, usually, it’s some shoes. Probably some Air Jordans. Air Jordan 1s. Or some Yeezys. Or some Air Force 1s, I bought some actually just yesterday. I’m starting to get really into shoes. I’m super creative with clothes and stuff, like, I went to a thrift store the other day in Minneapolis. I forget what it’s called, but it was pretty cool. I like to explore places like that and then put different clothing together and see what it looks like.”

9. The significance behind my number is …

“26. It’s my birthday. My birthday is August 26, so, 26.”

10. I’m motivated to work hard because …

“Just my self-driven passion to be one of the hardest workers either on my team or the environment I’m in. It’s kind of led me to get where I am today. I think it’s definitely led me to get to here and obviously, just working myself. I think never being satisfied with myself and always pushing that limit, where I think, oh, I’m tired, I can’t do anymore, but pushing it and being like, yeah, you can do more. Continually pushing that limit is what’s gotten me here today, and obviously helps with whatever I’m doing.”
