MINNESOTA UNITED HEAD COACH ADRIAN HEATH

On starting the season with ten points after four games and his thoughts on the group…
“If you split it up into two, I think we started exceptionally well the first two games. And I look at the performances of Portland [Timbers] and San Jose [Earthquakes] of the last two weeks, puts our 5-2 win against [San Jose] in a little bit of perspective. We got a result against [Sporting Kansas City] where we didn’t play particularly well other than the last 20 to 25 minutes and I thought we were a little bit better the other night. Still haven’t the highs of the first two games but we always talk about using chunks of the season and we spoke about having ten points after the first five games. We would have taken that [in March]. Now we’ve got ten points after four games. It’s a game we are capable of winning against Colorado on [Wednesday] and if we do that and we end up with 13 points from that game, it’s been a terrific start.”

On the first shutout of the season against Real Salt Lake…
“The one thing I expect out of all the games is our willingness to defend. I don’t just mean the back four, I mean the four up front and the two up top. They’ve shown a great appetite for the hard work and in these conditions, it’s been terrific to see. We put video together of people running back 60 yards just to get back to the goal side of the ball and in these conditions, that’s not easy to do. Their attitude to making tough decisions where I’m going to have to make the effort to get back and help the team out has been fantastic.”

On preparing for Colorado in the final game of the group stage…
“They’re obviously, since Robin [Fraser] has been there, they’ve had a real turnaround. Was it seven wins when he took over? Robin has given them a lift, they’re well-organized, they’re motivated and even with nine men against [Kansas City], they kept going. It’s going to be tough, as we know all the games are. I do know, if we play like we can, we can win the game.”

MINNESOTA UNITED MIDFIELDER ROBIN LOD

On adjusting to life in the bubble and training conditions…
“It’s been alright. It’s not the funnest thing to stay in a hotel for so long but we just have to live it. It’s nice that the last two weeks we get to play the games so there’s always something to wait for so it’s been nice.”

On starting the season with ten points after four games…
“If somebody said before the season that we would have ten points after four games, I think everybody would take it with a smile. It’s been a good start, but it doesn’t mean that we’ve been playing super great so there’s still a lot of work and we can improve for sure.”

On his relationship with backline…
“It’s been great. The whole team is defending really well. We are close to each other and everybody helps each other. We are defending really good and together but I think there’s a lot to improve when we get the ball and have some better attack for sure.”

On preparing for Colorado in the final game of the group stage…
“It’s going to be difficult for sure. I know they have a lot to prove and so do us. I think it’s going to be a great matchup, it’s not going to be easy by any means but I think we are ready for it.”

MINNESOTA UNITED DEFENDER CHASE GASPER

On adjusting to life in the bubble and training conditions…
“It’s been great. I was definitely pleasantly surprised; the accommodations are awesome, the food awesome and, it’s not ideal circumstances, but when you take things into perspective we got the greatest job in the world so you can’t complain. Just happy to spend time with my teammates, really get to know guys you didn’t know much about and just try to make the most of it.”

On developing a relationship with Jose Aja on the left side of the backline…
“Jose is incredible. I mean first off, he’s one of the nicest, greatest people I’ve ever met. I think that speaks volume to his character and personality but on the field he’s been fantastic. He’s a no nonsense defender, he’s broken up a lot of plays, stopped a lot of dangerous counterattacks from the other team and I think he’s been a huge help to our team. He’s done a great job filling in for Ike. I think the defense and the entire team is getting a big boost from him.”

On coming out with the first shutout of the season against Real Salt Lake…
“RSL is a very skilled team and their wingers, they tucked in a lot in pockets in front of the backline so, first and foremost, our communication was the key to our success. We talked about that a lot, leading up to the game, that the communication and being loud, telling the guys in front of you who to cut off and where to move – I think was the key to our success in the game. We didn’t really give their wingers that many opportunities. Although it did end in a tie, I think the team can take that as a huge positive and can take that into our game against Colorado.”

On preparing for Colorado in the final game of the group stage…
“It’s definitely going to be a challenging game. Although they haven’t gotten the best results lately, they’re a great team, they’re always a challenge to play against and like you said, there’s going to be that added motivation to come out of Orlando with some sort of points. We’re going to have to prepare like it’s a do or die game, because we need the points. Nothing is guaranteed right now so we’re going to prepare like it’s a do or die game and play our best.”
