Minnesota United and Major League Soccer today unveiled the new 2020 Wing Kit. Minnesota United’s 2020 kit is both dark and bold. Taking flight on a sweeping loon’s wing, the kit echoes the past while forging a new connection with current and future fans. Featuring a dark grey jersey with MNUFC wing printed on the front, the club slogan of “Forever United” is featured on the inside neck tape for fans and players to see when putting on the jersey. The loon from the center of the crest is also on the back of the collar near the neck as a raised 3D transfer.
“This is a design and concept which have a deep history with our club, our crest and most importantly our fans,” said MNUFC CEO Chris Wright. “This kit was the result of the more than a year and half of collaboration between our club, adidas and Major League Soccer. It was important to be able to tie our history with the Wing Kit to the historic 25th season celebration in Major League Soccer. We can’t wait to see Allianz Field packed with fans wearing our wing kits from past and present.”
When MNUFC was founded, one of its main goals was to pull together the threads of professional soccer from the last four decades in the state, from the Kicks to the Strikers to the Thunder to the Stars. With the 2020 Wing Kit, that now includes the some of the team's own threads, evoking the Loons' time in the NASL and the team's early, fervent supporters.
The FORWARD25 jersey reveal is part of MLS’ 25th Season Celebration in 2020, with all MLS teams unveiling their new kits as part of Fashion Week in New York City. Minnesota United will be represented at the event by award-winning chef and Official Allianz Field Culinary Consultant Justin Sutherland and Bullseye from Target, who return as Minnesota’s front-of-kit sponsor for the fourth season. The season as a whole will celebrate the league’s past, while expanding on the foundation it has built over an extensive period of explosive growth. The celebration will feature unique experiences, marquee events, robust content, innovative programming, and the special 25th Season commemorative design integrated throughout MLS and partner initiatives – including the 2020 MLS jerseys.
MLS jerseys will feature a new font in 2020. The official MLS name and number jersey font for 2020 is a dynamic, energetic and bold graphic typeface that introduces a layering tri-line effect. The font was designed in collaboration with MLS by Rick Banks, lead designer and typographer of Face37, an award-winning graphic design studio based in Manchester, England.
The 2020 Wing jersey is now on sale at MNUFC.com or stop by the Black & Blue Team Store at Allianz Field starting tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. A portion of the proceeds from purchases of the 2020 Wing jersey at the Black & Blue Team Store during the entire month of February will be donated to the National Loon Center.
Minnesota United is hosting an MNUFC Housewarming on Sunday, February 9 at Allianz Field, featuring the 3rd Annual Surly Boot Soccer tournament from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the launch of the new 2020 Kit in the Black & Blue Team Store, including appearances by MNUFC players, broadcasters and PK throughout the day. The Brew Hall will be open, Surly Furious will be on special and the menu will feature items with Cloverdale Bacon. Coffee, hot chocolate and beer will be for sale on the Great Lawn.
