Minnesota United today announced it has traded defender Eric Miller to New York City FC for $50,000 in General Allocation Money.


MNUFC acquired Miller and $50,000 in GAM from Colorado Rapids in exchange for Sam Nicholson on May 2, 2018. The versatile defender is a native of Woodbury, Minnesota and played youth soccer in the state. He made his first MNUFC start on May 5 against the Vancouver Whitecaps and finished the 2018 season with 18 game appearances across 1,145 minutes and one assist.


Miller first joined MLS in 2014, when he was drafted fifth overall in the MLS SuperDraft by Montreal Impact. Miller moved to Colorado in 2016 and was named Rapids’ Defensive Player of the Year the following year, starting a career-high 30 of 30 matches for a total of 2,616 minutes during the 2017 campaign. The defender played with the U18 and U20 U.S. national teams, taking part in the 2013 Toulon Tournament and the 2013 FIFA U20 World Cup in Turkey.
