Quintero and Calvo Make MLS Team of the Week for Week 1

For their standout performances in the Loons’ opening game win in Vancouver, Darwin Quintero and Francisco Calvo have been named to the MLS Team of the Week. Quintero made the Team of the Week five times in 2018 and Calvo, who features on the bench, has earned the honor three times in his MNUFC career.

Quintero was the catalyst for the MNUFC offense in Week One, playing a role in every goal of Minnesota’s 3-2 win. He scored a penalty kick to tie the game in the first half, and provided assists to Calvo and Romario Ibarra in the second half to claim three points. Quintero has earned at least one point in each of his last three appearances for the Loons.

Calvo was a major feature in the attacking play for the Loons, flying up and down the left flank for all 90 minutes. He drew the penalty kick for Quintero in the first half and scored a diving header to take the lead over Whitecaps FC with less than 30 minutes to go in the game. The Costa Rica international has three goals in his last two games.
