Preseason 2019

Minnesota United today announced its 2019 preseason schedule as the club looks ahead to the start of a successful first season in their new home of Allianz Field and a third season in Major League Soccer.

The Loons will kick off the 2019 MLS preseason in Minnesota, training at the National Sports Center in Blaine for a week before heading to Tucson, Arizona where they will compete in a number of friendly matches. Players are set to report to camp on Monday, January 21 with the first media availability coming on January 22.

First up in Tucson is a meeting with USL League Two club FC Tucson on Tuesday, January 29, this game is part of the Mobile Mini Sun Cup. The Loons then face USL Championship club Phoenix Rising on Saturday, February 2. The final preseason match in Tucson pits the Loons against fellow MLS club, the Houston Dynamo on Wednesday, February 6 at the Kino Sports Complex.

Following the club’s preseason stint in Arizona, MNUFC will return home briefly before heading to Orlando, Florida for the Orlando City Invitational held at the Orlando City Stadium. The Loons will play two games in the tournament followed by a friendly against Orlando City.

  • Saturday, February 16 at 4:00 p.m. CT vs. New England Revolution
  • Wednesday, February 20 at 5:00 p.m. CT, vs. New York City FC
  • Saturday, February 23 at 12:00 p.m. CT, vs. Orlando City SC

The four-match invitational will be held across two days with double-header matches. The winning team with the most points will be awarded a trophy. Clubs will receive three points for a win, one point for a draw, zero points for a loss and two points for a penalty kick win. Tiebreakers will be determined by goals against, goals for, yellow card accumulation, red card accumulation and fouls committed.

Participating teams are allowed unlimited subs in each match; however, players who have exited the contest will not be allowed to re-enter. If a player receives two yellow cards or a red card, they will not be suspended for the following match -- only the remainder of the current match.
