Minnesota Unified Team Makes Season Home Debut

When Matthew and Lauren St. John touch back down in Minneapolis after their flight from Atlanta, they’ll be returning from representing Minnesota United’s Unified team at the Special Olympics Unified Sports All-Star Match. Just two weeks ago they were competing in the second game of their season against the South Sioux City Unified Team at TCF Bank Stadium.

Prior to that game, the two Unified teams spent the day together checking out the concourse at the Mall of America, riding rollercoasters at Nickelodeon Universe, playing arcade games at GameWorks and enjoying a pre-game meal at Buffalo Wild Wings. Then they headed to the stadium to watch MNUFC disassemble visiting LAFC 5-1.

Just like the first teams, both Unified teams hung their equipment in their own personal locker rooms at TCF Bank Stadium. Supporters stayed as the lineups were introduced over the PA, and multiple Minnesota United players showed up to the sidelines to show their support for the Unified team. In the end, it was South Sioux City who came out on top 2-1. Each team received medals and were sent on their way to the words of “Wonderwall,” which was loudly sung from the supporters who stayed for the entirety of the game.
