“It’s a privilege for me to renew my contract with Minnesota,” said Calvo. “First, I’m grateful to God for this opportunity, to leadership for trusting in me for several more years and, of course, to Adrian Heath and his coaching staff. I hope to be able to return their confidence with hard work and leadership on and off the field. We’re going to do something special in Minnesota!”

Calvo, 25, extends his contract after leading the Loons through their inaugural season in MLS. During his first campaign with the club, the defender started 27 of 27 matches, including scoring two goals against Vancouver Whitecaps FC and San Jose Earthquakes and earning a spot in the MLS Team of the Week in Week 13 for his role in Minnesota’s clean-sheet win over Orlando City SC. In 2018, he has once again anchored the backline in two wins through three matches.

The MNUFC captain has ambitions of representing his country and the Loons at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, where Los Ticos will face Brazil, Switzerland and Serbia in Group E.

Minnesota United’s next home match is on Saturday, March 31 at 7:00 p.m. CT against Atlanta United. With over 13,000 season ticket holders, the best way to guarantee your spot at Allianz Field is to become a season ticket holder today. Tickets available at MNUFC.COM or by calling 763.4SOCCER.
