Four Loons Featured in MLS Team of the Week

Minnesota United players are cleaning up the league awards this week, with four Loons being named to the MLS Team of the Week for Week 31. Abu Danladi, Kevin Molino and Brent Kallman are in the starting lineup this week, and Collin Martin earned a spot on the bench.

Danladi makes his second appearance in the Team of the Week, with his first coming back in Week 25. The #1 overall pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft had a big week for MNUFC. He scored the opening goal in a 3-2 win over Atlanta United last Tuesday and provided an assist on the equalizer against Sporting Kansas City on Saturday night. He has been on a tear recently, with points in four of his last five matches.

It is no surprise seeing Molino in the Team of the Week after he was also named Alcatel MLS Player of the Week. The Trinidad and Tobago international was a huge part of the Loons’ win over Atlanta before joining his national team for World Cup Qualifying. He assisted Danladi’s opening goal before coming in clutch with the stoppage-time winner. This is Molino’s third time in the Team of the Week this season.

Kallman lived up to the billing of hometown hero this week, scoring a late equalizer against Sporting KC to claim a point in front of the MNUFC faithful. It was his second goal of his MLS career, opening his account back in March against the New England Revolution. The Woodbury native makes his first appearance in the starting lineup of the Team of the Week after featuring on the bench back in Week 3.

Martin makes his debut appearance on the bench in the Team of the Week. The 22-year-old has made five consecutive starts for the Loons and has been a factor on both sides of the ball. He showed great distribution on the ball and showcased some flair with some skilled dribbles. His defensive work rate and punishing tackles locked down the Minnesota defensive end.
