Nandos Chicken Oh My God I Want to Eat This

The beauty of going out to eat is the ease of it: you don’t have to cook or clean up afterwards. The food your family made growing up might bring back the comforts of home, but your favorite restaurants from back home have their own magic.

With players from all corners of the globe, it’s no surprise that many of Minnesota United’s players and coaches have spots they always try to hit up when they’re back in town. If you ever find yourself in California, Vancouver or Scotland, make sure to stop in to these restaurants for a quick bite.

Kevin Venegas: Breakfast Burrito / Nick’s Deli / Long Beach, CA

“It’s a place called Nick’s Deli. And it’s a local, kind of hangout spot by my high school. It’s notorious for breakfast burritos — eggs, potatoes, bacon, avocado. But the potatoes are French fries sometimes. You can get that in there. And then they have a special sauce you can put on there and it’s like, five bucks. People would always do big orders and bring them to school and after, too. It was really popular. So I always get one when I go home.”

Mark Watson: Legendary Platter / White Spot / Vancouver, BC

“That’s a tough question — I’ve lived in like 20 different places. I’ll say my favorite kind of hometown meal was White Spot. It’s a big chain in Vancouver. They have the best hamburgers in the world. It was this place that opened in the ‘50s. They have something called a Legendary Platter with Triple “O” sauce. For me, that would be the best, although, no one else has heard of it. It was a big deal with the kids because they always put it in a pirate ship. And you get ice cream and a gold coin. So we’re going way back! We’re going back to the early ‘70s. But it’s still good.”

Sam Nicholson: PERi-PERi Chicken / Nando’s / Scotland

“Nando’s is a place where you get chicken. It’s amazing. Not fried chicken, like regular chicken. Just a chicken breast. And then you get fries and stuff with it. It’s amazing. Really unhealthy, but it’s good. I’d go twice a week probably … Don’t tell anyone!”
