Training Notes

  • Brent Kallman will sit this one out after going knee-to-knee with Alphonso Davies when the Loons faced Vancouver Whitecaps FC. He missed last week’s match against NYCFC as well, with Jermaine Taylor taking over his spot. With Taylor away on Gold Cup duty for Jamaica, expect the team to shift things around and likely give Joe Greenspan his first MLS start of the year.
  • Abu Danladi returned to full training this week after missing several matches to a thigh injury. He remains questionable on the injury list, but MNUFC will be hoping he’s ready to go with Johan Venegas away on international duty for Costa Rica this week.

Gaffer’s Quote

  • Adrian Heath on what games like soccer tennis or horseshoes do for the players: “It's obviously a lot more light-hearted and you get a bit more banter going in that type of environment. It works the touch, the feel of the ball and there's nothing they like more than playing the net tennis or the horseshoes and a little bit of competitive edge gets in there. It's a case of getting out, getting warmed up and getting a nice feel and touch of the ball.”

Marquee Matchups

  • The backline vs Federico Higuain: With MNUFC rolling out a less tested defense, Higuain could run rampant, the attacking mid having recently scored in four consecutive matches.
  • Ismaila Jome vs Ethan Finlay: Two Minnesota natives will go head-to-head throughout the match along wing. Finlay will be the first obstacle for Jome making his way up the pitch, while Jome could very well be the last line of defense against Finlay's attacking runs.

Horseshoe Winners

  • Every Friday, the team plays a game called horseshoes where teams of two set up flat cones roughly 20 yards apart. Teammates send lofted passes to each other with the receiver having to settle the ball in one touch before it hits the ground. Closest to the cone wins a point.
  • THIS WEEK'S WINNERS: Due to the short week, no horseshoes were played.
