Minnesota United will be celebrating its Salute to Freedom during its Tuesday, July 4 match against Columbus Crew SC at TCF Bank Stadium – kickoff at 6 p.m. CT. The club has several events planned throughout the day to honor active duty military members, veterans and their families.
For this special match, the club will be offering free tickets to people with a valid military ID. To claim your free ticket, visit MNUFC.COM/PROMO, use promo code SALUTETOFREEDOM and enter your military ID. Tickets can also be claimed on match day at the box office by presenting your military ID. Fans who purchase tickets for the match will also have the opportunity to donate additional tickets to various military charities.
As the players take the pitch, they will be flanked by members of the United Heroes League, an organization with the mission of keeping military kids active and healthy through sports. They will be holding special Stars and Stripes-themed Forever United pitch scarves.
The national anthem will be performed by Sgt. Ava Penner of the Minnesota National Guard. A large American flag, held by members of the Minnesota National Guard and the Itasca Society, will be unveiled to accompany Sgt. Penner.
The match will be preceded by a flyover performed by WWII-era T-6 Texan planes from the T-6 Thunder North American Flight Team, weather permitting.
At the pre-match coin toss, the Itasca Society will be represented by Steven Pen. He was a corporal in the Marines, serving for five years in the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines with tours in Iraq and Afghanistan in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. For his actions in the line of duty, Pen was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon.
At halftime, the club will recognize all veterans and active duty military members in attendance to thank them for their service to our country.
