Today, Governor Mark Dayton issued a proclamation declaring Sunday, March 12 Soccer in Minnesota Day. Soccer’s rich legacy in the state will reach a new level on that day when Minnesota United plays the home opener of their inaugural Major League Soccer season against Atlanta United at TCF Bank Stadium.

Minnesota United is committed not only to competing at the highest level in the top division of soccer in the United States, but to enriching and expanding the experience of the sport at all levels. Through partnerships with the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association and the National Sports Center, MNUFC is working to make the sport more accessible for youth in Minnesota.

"This proclamation from Governor Dayton is a terrific recognition of soccer as a sport across the state,” said MNUFC President Nick Rogers. "This Sunday is going to be huge for us, but we hope it's even bigger for the growth of the game throughout Minnesota."

Tickets are still available for Minnesota United’s home opener on March 12 at TCF Bank Stadium. Be there for the beginning as MNUFC embarks on its inaugural MLS season. Fans who want to catch every home match can join the Itasca Society. Over 11,000 season tickets have already been sold, rapidly approaching the inaugural season limit of 11,842 members in this exclusive club — one for every lake in Minnesota. A portion of all proceeds from these season tickets are donated to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ Loon Monitoring program.
