Ripples: Early Season Community Impact

Minnesota United continues its dedication to give back to the Twin Cities community, and this year, we’ve started strong with some great events. In order to keep you updated, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite community moments over the start of the season.

MRVAC – Kit Reveal

A portion of the proceeds from every jersey sold in the month of February was donated to the Minnesota River Valley Audubon Chapter, an organization that promotes environmental awareness, education, and advocacy action – specifically relating to the wildlife of the Minnesota River Valley. 

TC SOL – TC WinterSOLstice

On February 18, DJ Taylor and Caden Clark were honorary coaches at the second annual TC WinterSOLstice, an all day 3 v 3 tournament hosted by TC SOL at Adrenaline Sports. Over 250 kids participated in this winter clash, with a few winning teams collecting tickets to the home opener.

Mt. Airy Boys and Girls Club – MNUFC Soccer Clinic

On February 21, MNUFC hosted a soccer clinic for the Mt. Airy Boys and Girls Club. Zarek Valentin and Tani Oluwaseyi dropped in as well to coach the kids through drills and games. It was a fun event full of competitive spirit, mentor moments and, of course, the beautiful game at the center.

Women in Sports Webinar

On February 26, MNUFC held the Women in Sports Webinar, in which women who work in various roles for the club sat down to talk about their experiences in the sporting world. Those who attended the webinar – mainly young women looking to break into sports – submitted questions and the panelists individually answered each one.

ACES – Open Training

On February 27, ACES swung by Allianz Field to watch the first team during their open training session. The kids had their own section right on the sidelines and took photos with Michael Boxall and Robin Lod. ACES - Athletes Committed to Educating Students, focuses on reducing the academic opportunity gap in Minnesota and through it, improve the likelihood of success for students in underserved communities

Valley View Elementary – Player Visit

On February 28, DJ Taylor and Hugo Bacharach visited Valley View Elementary. The players read books in both English and Spanish to the Pre-K class and then concluded with an assembly where they shared their life stories and hosted a juggling competition.

Special Olympics Minnesota – Polar Plunge

On March 1, Khaled El-Ahmad and Manny Lagos, along with our friends at Special Olympics Minnesota, took to the frozen waters of Riley Lake in Eden Prairie, Minnesota for the annual Polar Plunge. The event raised $112,517 for Special Olympics Minnesota, with more than 600 people participating.
