What a lovely weekend, huh Loons fans? Exhilarating for onlookers, a regular day at the office for your Loons. After just another regular season win, Minnesota United Head Coach Eric Ramsay and all-time leading goal scorer Robin Lod both earned spots on Team of the Matchday 12. A resounding 4-1 win over the defending Supporters’ Shield champions saw the Loons get the best out of their tactical approach to the game, with superb individual performances across the pitch adding to the incredible atmosphere.
This is Coach Ramsay’s third TOTM honor since joining the club and his first in 2025. Since the start of the year, Ramsay and the boys have perfected an approach that uses defensive excellence as a springboard for lethal counters. Throw in some of the league’s most threatening and organized set pieces, and you’ve got a recipe for success. This weekend’s match saw the Loons start in a 3-4-2-1 formation, allowing Lod and Pereyra to move higher to get involved in the attack while using a double pivot to cover the space they left. The mid-game switch to a 5-3-2 enabled the Loons to keep the pressure high through tactical and personnel adjustments, leaving the visitors reeling and securing an emphatic three points.
When he’s free to get involved in the attack, it’s clear to see how Robin Lod got his name to the top of the club’s all-time scoring charts. After spending much of the season operating in more of a connecting, playmaking capacity slightly farther back in the midfield, Lod scored his first goal of the season against Miami with a fantastic strike from distance. An all-around solid performance from the Finn capped off an impressive win for the home side.
Your Loons are now in sole possession of second place in the Western Conference with 22 points, just five points back from league leaders Vancouver. They’ve strung together three consecutive wins across all competitions and will look to make that four in a row when they visit Houston this Wednesday for the first of several midweek matchups to come. Well done and congrats to both Coach Ramsay and Lod; let’s keep the good form going as we look to keep pace with the best of the West!
