San Jose Earthquakes

Opara and Gregus Headline the Team of the Week

2020 MLS Team of the Week Week 2 Opara and Gregus

Minnesota United earned its second win of the 2020 season, cruising past San Jose Earthquakes by a 5-2 margin. Ike Opara and Jan Gregus led the way for the Loons on both ends of the field and have earned spots in the MLS Team of the Week for Week 2.

Opara makes his first feature in the Team of the Week in 2020 after earning the honor a club record seven times in 2019. The stalwart defender scored two headed goals off corner kicks, and drew the foul for a penalty kick that led to teammate Robin Lod’s first MLS goal. On the defensive side, Opara managed the slippery conditions with five clearances and four interceptions.

Gregus appears in the Team of the Week for the first time since featuring on the bench in Week 29 of the 2019 season. He assisted both of Opara’s goals on corner kicks, and scored a screamer of his own to reclaim the lead in the first half. The Slovakia international is now tied with Ethan Finlay for most assists on the team after two games.
