The Twos are heading to The Town to complete their western walkabout, fresh off their 1-1 draw against Timbers2 this weekend. Tuesday’s hosts sit just behind MNUFC2 in the standings, tied on points and behind only on the total wins tiebreaker. This San Jose outfit is quietly making their way up the table, keeping a 1.71 points per game pace that could see them rise toward the very top if they can keep it up. In order to do that, though, they’ll have to get through the Loons first.
Though most opponents have played more MLS NEXT Pro matches than your Loons (16) so far this year, The Town are the lone exception. In their 14 matches thus far, they’ve managed a record of 6-4-4, won two shootouts, and scored an impressive 31 goals. Their +12 goal difference means that they’re close to outscoring their opponents by a goal every game, and with talented attackers leading the way, it’s no wonder that they’ve made up so much ground in so little time.
Among the threats that MNUFC2 will hope to keep quiet is The Town’s Nonso Adimabua. The Nigerian forward has managed to score seven goals while adding four assists, bringing his 2025 goal contribution total up to 11—and that’s just halfway through the season. He accounts for more than a third of his team’s goals and will undoubtedly present a stiff challenge for the Twos’ backline tomorrow.
Both clubs enter this matchup with a mixed bag of form, with wins, draws, and losses scattered throughout their last five games. The hosts have yet to lose at home this season, putting together a 4-0-1 record at Saint Mary’s Stadium. While this stat is intimidating in isolation, your Loons will take heart in their own away record, which has seen them earn a point or more in seven of their nine road matches.
If the Loons want to stop The Town’s charge up the table, they’ll need standout performances from some of their emerging stars, from the likes of Momoh Kamara to leading goalscorer Luke Hille (6). The midfield production of Curt Calov has kept the side firing this season, and if he can add to his six assists in 2025, his side will stand a fighting chance against one of the league’s hottest teams.
Kickoff is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, July 22, at 7:30 p.m. CT. If you happen to be in San Jose, head on over to Saint Mary’s Stadium to cheer the boys on. If not, streaming will be available on MLS Season Pass.
