Minnesota United announced today the club has signed defender Bakaye Dibassy to a new one year contract, with a club option.
The centerback joined MNUFC midway through the 2020 season, after four seasons with Amiens SC. Dibassy made an immediate impact upon arriving in Minnesota, making his first MLS appearance on September 9 against FC Dallas and first start at Sporting Kansas City the following game. He was a key component of a backline that supported the Loons to its first Western Conference Final appearance in the 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs and scoring his first two MNUFC goals in the playoffs. Over the course of the 2022 season, Dibassy has appeared and started in 21 matches for the Loons, scoring one goal and has been an integral cog to a Loons defense that ranks fifth in the Western Conference in goals allowed.
Born in Paris, France, Dibassy is of Mali descent and represents the Mali national team. On the international stage, Dibassy has four caps with the Mali national team since making his debut in 2017 in a World Cup Qualifier against Morocco.
