Minnesota United announced today the club has traded defender Chase Gasper to the LA Galaxy in exchange for $450,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money (GAM). LA will also send a conditional $300,000 in GAM if certain performance metrics are achieved. The trade will mark Gasperâs return to Los Angeles, where he played his collegiate soccer at UCLA.
âWe all feel a little bit of sadness really, because Chase Gasper is an established member of our club and a really popular guy and heâs been an incredible professional since heâs been here,â said MNUFC Head Coach Adrian Heath. âChase sees this as a new beginning and a great opportunity. While these decisions are never easy, we all want to first and foremost, support Chase the person â not just Chase the soccer player. I hope heâs really, really successful and I wish him well and thank him for everything heâs done for us.â
âIâm so grateful for the three and a half years Iâve spent here,â said defender Chase Gasper. âTo all of my teammates, coaches, staff, everyone involved in the club and especially the fans: from the bottom of my heart, I canât thank you enough for an incredible time in Minnesota and all the love and support youâve given me. While this club, itâs fans and this city will hold a special place in my heart, I am really looking forward to a new beginning and grateful for the clubâs support in that.â
A Virginia-native, Gasper was selected with the 15th overall pick by MNUFC in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. A standout in his rookie season, Gasper quickly become the go-to starter at left back. He had a positive impact on the team and started in all 14 of his appearances following his debut in June 2019. The steady defender contributed to six clean sheets throughout the rest of the 2019 season and featured in all five of the clubâs U.S. Open Cup games. Over his three seasons with MNUFC, Gasper has over 60 MLS starts, including starting all 30 games in which he featured in 2021. Gasper has two career professional goals, scoring his first in a 4-0 win over Real Salt Lake at Allianz Field in 2020.
