Minnesota United announced today the club has acquired Canadian international defender Doneil Henry off waivers.

Henry joins MNUFC after re-uniting with Toronto FC in July 2022 after starting the season with LAFC. In Major League Soccer, the center-back has made 114 regular-season appearances, playing almost 8,600 minutes while scoring six goals over nine years spent in the league. Henry began his Major League Soccer career notably as Toronto’s first-ever Homegrown Player signing in 2010, where he spent his first five years of professional play from 2010-2014. During those four season, Henry helped the Reds win three consecutive Canadian Championships in 2010, 2011 and 2012. The Canadian defender was a member of the Vancouver Whitecaps during their 2018 and 2019 campaigns, helping the team reach the 2018 Canadian Championship finals. Outside of MLS, the 29-year-old has experience globally, including spells with Suwon Samsung Bluewings of the Korean K-League, West Ham United of the English Premier League, Blackburn Rovers of the English Championship and AC Horsens of the Danish Superliga.

Internationally, Henry has earned 44 caps with the senior Canadian National Team to-date. He has additionally represented Canada at the U20 and U23 levels and in 2012 he was named Player of the Year for Canada’s U20 team. Henry was part of the senior team that finished first overall in the Concacaf Final Round of 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, sending Canada to its first FIFA World Cup in 36 years. Henry was named to the Canada Men’s National Team roster for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
