MNUFC2’s comeback fell short, losing 3-2 to Whitecaps FC 2 at the National Sports Center Stadium on Wednesday night. The Twos were once again able to come back after a two-goal deficit with a successful penalty attempt from Luke Hille and Airdan Martinez, but ultimately were not able to equalize a second time.
5’ - MNUFC2’s Luke Hille gave the Twos their first scoring chance with a left-footed shot just outside the 18-yard box, but sent the ball wide right of the right post.
12’ - Whitecaps FC 2 found their first scoring opportunity as Jackson Castro sent a through ball to Johnny Selemani, who took a left-footed shot inside the 18-yard box aimed at the left post, but MNUFC2 goalkeeper Kai Zeruhn deflected the ball out.
15’ - Just after the ‘Caps first scoring attempt, Antoine Coupland created another chance and struck the ball at the center of the 18-yard box, but sent the ball just left of Kai Zeruhn’s left post.
17’ (0-1) - The visiting team took the lead after a long-ball service over the top connected with Rayan Elloumi. The striker then made a quick turn inside the box, passing it off to an unmarked Nelson Pierre, who finished the play and struck the ball into the back of the net.
22’ - MNUFC2 found another scoring chance after Kieran Chandler crossed the ball that connected with Luke Hille’s head, which sent the ball down to the ‘Caps goalkeeper Alexander Milosevic’s legs, who then ultimately deflected the ball out.
43’ - Minnesota defender Kieran Chandler created another scoring chance for the Twos and took a quick shot at the center of the 18-yard box aimed directly at the ‘Caps goalkeeper Milosevic, who corralled the ball near the goal line.
45’+3’ - Muba Nour was subbed out of the match with an apparent leg injury after colliding with ‘Caps forward Nelson Pierre on the Twos’ goal line.
47’ - Curt Calov opened the second half by providing MNUFC2 with a scoring chance with a shot from his left foot, which sent the ball over to ‘Caps goalkeeper Milosevic’s right side, hitting the outside of the far post.
59’ - Whitecaps FC 2 forward Rayan Elloumi tallied another shot on target on a counterattack, striking the ball off the near post, which ultimately deflected back on the near sideline.
62’ (0-2) - ‘Caps Forward Nelson Pierre doubled their lead on a swift counterattack alongside Nelson Pierre, who assisted the goal within the 18-yard box, beating the Twos’ goalkeeper Kai Zeruhn in the center of the net.
71’ - MNUFC2’s next scoring chance came off a deflected free kick from Curt Calov, which ultimately led to a quick shot off the rebound from Alpha Kabia that struck the center of the crossbar, deflecting back out to Britton Fischer. Fischer’s shot attempt led to a ‘Caps handball, and the referee awarded MNUFC2 with a penalty kick.
72’ (1-2) - Luke Hille put the Loons on the scoresheet, converting a penalty attempt directed toward the right side of the net.
78’ (2-2) - On a transition play into Vancouver’s defending third, Calov drove the ball up the field, finding space and connecting with MNUFC Academy midfielder Aidan Martinez who was running parallel on the right flank. Martinez then drove towards goal and buried his shot into the far post of the net to equalize the match.
90’ (2-3) - ‘Caps regained the lead on a corner kick sent in from Jackson Castro that deflected off of Antoine Coupland, who landed the ball at Daniel Russo’s feet for a tap-in on the Twos’ goal line.
