A Darius Randell goal off a rebound from the post equalized the match at 1-1, earned MNUFC2 a point and sent the game to a shootout from the mark to determine the extra point. Ultimately, the Twos weren’t able to earn that second point, falling in the shootout 4-2 on Friday night.

1’ - MNUFC2 jumped into action on a first-minute counterattack after the Austin FC II side had an unsuccessful free-kick attempt. Twos’ midfielder Alpha Kabia gained possession and drove the ball into Austin’s defending third before passing off to forward Troy Putt. The New Zealand forward drove closer to goal on the right side, firing off a shot that forced the home goalkeeper to make a save.

14’ - The home side saw their first dangerous scoring attempt when Daniel Ciesla took a close-range shot from inside the MNUFC2 box that was deflected upward towards the net, but goalkeeper Kayne Rizvanovich had a quick reaction and thwarted the chance by making the save.

18’ - Rizvanovich made yet another key diving save after an Austin winger sent a cross deep into the box, connecting with Peter Grogan who made a header attempt. That header went toward the opposite side of the net, but the Minnesota keeper got a hand on the ball to force a corner kick.

25’ (0-1) - Shortly after Rizvanovich made another save a minute prior, Austin FC II scored the opening goal after Grogan found space unmarked inside the box. The ball came in from a corner kick before bouncing around three different players, ultimately seeing Grogan netting the goal on a tap-in.

30’ - MNUFC2 forward Darius Randell gained possession atop of Austin FC II’s box from a pass by Loic Mesanvi. Randell took a quick shot through a defender’s legs, forcing Austin goalkeeper Charlie Farrar to make the save.

45’+2’ - MNUFC Academy defender Anderson Farris connected on a cross inside the Austin FC II 18-yard box, taking a one-touch strike towards goal. The shot went through traffic and past the keeper, but Austin defender Nicolas Van Rijn made the stop on the goal line to keep the score at 1-0 in favor of the home side right before halftime.

63’ - Twos’ midfielder Babacar Niang controlled the ball near the top of Austin’s box shortly after a corner kick service from Farris. Niang then took a shot, unmarked, curling just wide of the far upper corner.

65’ (1-1) - MNUFC2 scored the equalizer after defender Britton Fischer sent a long, direct ball over top of the Austin FC II defense. That ball bounced past a defender and forward Darius Randell made a run at goal. Randell attempted to chip the keeper, but the ball hit the right post. He stuck with the rebound and netted the ball just inside the post to make the score 1-1.

88’ - A dangerous cross into MNUFC2’s six-yard box was sent in by Austin, but MNUFC Academy defender Anderson Farris intercepted the ball before he cleared it up the field, which prevented any scoring chance.

90’+3’ - Following a rebound from an initial shot by First Team forward Loïc Mesanvi, MNUFC Academy midfielder Brady Schumacher struck a close-range shot that went inside the net, but was ultimately ruled offside by the line judge. The score remained level until full time was blown, leading into a shootout from the mark to determine which side earned the extra point.
