JAN GREGUS: 10 things you don’t know about me

Jan Gregus

1. I’m scared of …

“I think everybody is scared of something. Me … Hmm, what am I scared of? Not, like, animals or something like that. But some people were asking me about bungee jumping, and I was like, ah, not right now. So maybe that’s a thing that I might do in the future, but not right now.”

2. Something that’s on my bucket list …

“I want to visit some places. There’re some places that I want to go. I want to do something that scares me, for sure. I will put something on the bucket list that scares me, so there has to be something on there, like, fly out of an airplane, or something like that. I have to face my fears!”

3. I’m currently binge watching this on Netflix …

“I think it’s the only one on Netflix that I finished. I’ve seen everything. It’s Black Mirror. And I think we are close to that. They show it as a sci-fi, but I think we are not that far from it, with all the robots and everything coming in. I think we are, like, getting pretty close.”

4. My favorite thing to shop for is …

“When I was younger, I used to like to buy equipment for a gym. Something I could work with, so I could make myself better. That was the thing I liked to shop for or buy. Other than that, only food now. Food and some kind of clothing when I need to.”

5. My thoughts on Minnesota so far …

“I like the fact that we are really good as a team and we are doing well heading into playoffs. But, yeah, I came here because of the football. It’s all about football, but I love other sports as well. A few days ago, I was at the Vikings game and it was amazing. And also, NBA. I’m looking forward to that, again. I like the city and like my building where I’m living. There’s a pool and two gyms, so I like it a lot.”

6. I’m proud of myself for …

“I don’t feel that much proud of myself, but I don’t know. I was always happy and glad for me and the team when we won something. So, we won title in Copenhagen. Or we went to Champions League. Or we went to Euros with Slovakia. Every team achievement, I was happy for me, but also for the team. And also, when I make good transfers, in my career, I feel good.”

7. On the significance behind my number …

“It should be number six, and at first, [equipment manager] Ryan Natusch was calling me and told me, okay, number six it is. I said yes, it can be number six. Then he wrote me a message after two weeks, and said, Jan, can you please change to number eight? Ozzie Alonso is coming and has been wearing number six for his whole career. So, I was like, no problem, I can handle it. And, eight, eight is nice. I like the numbers that are from one to, let’s say, 11. The first 11 numbers. The last two clubs, I had 24 and 16. On the national team, I had number six. When I was younger, I also wore eight and 10, so eight is okay for me. And my sister was born on the eighth of January, ’88, so lots of eights.”

8. My favorite book is …

“I’ve read so many. I’ve read over hundreds of books. Could be autobiographies: I love Mike Tyson books. I’ve read two or three of them. I talked with Mike Tyson, in Copenhagen. He was nice!”

9. The best piece of life advice I have ever received …

“Everything you do, do it 100 percent.”

10. The coolest place I have lived …

“Europe was nice. I liked visiting Portugal, it was a nice place. I’ve lived only four places. When I grew up, it was in Slovakia. That’s one of the most beautiful places that I know. Then I lived in Czech Republic. Two cities. Then Copenhagen, it was nice. Very clean, nice city. Big water and a lot of parks. I’ve visited almost every country in Europe, so it’s hard to choose one as a favorite. I think there’s two countries that I haven’t visited from Europe. Other than that, I’ve visited every country.”
