Gaffer’s Quote

  • Adrian Heath on what his concerns are with Vancouver: “They've got good players for a start. Team's been together a few years now, spent quite a bit of money putting it together and Freddy Montero — we know that if we don't keep a close eye on him for the full 90 minutes, invariably he'll punish you. So they're a good team with two or three years together. Hey, it's gonna be another tough challenge for us but if we can play like we did against Portland Timbers, like we did against LA Galaxy, against Orlando City, we're going to cause them some real problems.”

Marquee Matchups

  • Christian Ramirez vs. Tim Parker: Ramirez made easy work of the Portland center backs in the team’s midweek match. Parker is a young CB that has featured in a majority of Vancouver’s matches. He’ll have a tough task containing Ramirez, against whom neither CB has a height advantage.
  • Kevin Venegas vs. Brek Shea: Shea is a national team-caliber player who’s dangerous on both ends of the pitch. Viva looked confident on Wednesday once he settled into the match, but he’ll need to find his composure early to keep up with the speed of Shea.

Horseshoe Winners

  • Every Friday, the team plays a game called horseshoes where teams of two set up flat cones roughly 20 yards apart. Teammates send lofted passes to each other with the receiver having to settle the ball in one touch before it hits the ground. Closest to the cone wins a point.
  • THIS WEEK'S WINNERS: Jerome Thiesson and Abu Danladi
