While the 2020 season is temporarily postponed, Minnesota United is providing free streams of past Loon Classics. The second stream is a matchup between Minnesota United and Toronto FC on Independence Day of 2018, kicking off a historic month for the Loons and containing a franchise-first MLS Hat Trick. The stream kicks off live at 5 p.m. CT on Friday, March 27.
It was a quick turnaround for both Minnesota United and the 2018 MLS Cup champion Toronto FC as the teams prepared for an Independence Day matchup in the Twin Cities. Both squads were looking to end their three-match winless runs and begin a climb up the standings. For Toronto, a busy schedule in the early part of the season haunted the club into the summer. The match was the start of a three-match road trip for the Reds, who needed maximum points to defend their title. MNUFC continued to shuffle its lineup to deal with injuries and absences, and hoped that some stability amongst its core group will translate into points.
Due to MLS restrictions, the stream is only available for viewers within the Minneapolis-Saint Paul broadcast markets.
