JAMES MUSA: 10 things you don’t know about me

James Musa

1. My biggest hero(s) are …

“That’s a very good question. I would say, it would have to be someone like Roger Federer. I really like tennis. I obviously love sports and he epitomizes a top sports person. I’d say he’s pretty high up there. Nelson Mandela is another one. Being African and just everything he stood for and everything he did. What he did for the country and races around the world, I think he’s another pivotal person in my life.”

2. My go-to music I listen to while I’m driving is …

“I actually have quite a vast musical array on my phone. It just depends what mood I’m in. I enjoy R&B, hip-hop, some English grime every now and again. Some New Zealand music if I feel like some New Zealand music. I just say whatever I’m in the mood for.”

3. My biggest fear is …

“I’m not a massive fan of animals. Not all animals, just animals that I can’t predict what they’re going to do. Like coyotes and weird things like that. Snakes and stuff don’t scare me, but the unpredictable animals.”

4. One of my pet peeves is …

“I don’t like it when people say they’re going to do something and then they don’t. Like, oh yeah, let’s do something at 4 o’clock. And then 4 o’clock comes around and they’re nowhere to be seen. Stick to your word, man!”

5. I’m motivated to work hard because …

“Just knowing how hard it was to get here. And obviously, I don’t want to take backwards steps, essentially, I want to move forward. So I would say, just always having a goal and something to work towards motivates me to keep working harder.”

6. If I was an animal, I would be …

“Definitely not a snake.”

7. The best life advice I have ever received …

“I’m a really big believer, especially with my experience as well as growing up in New Zealand, spreading your wings and kind of going out into the world and experiencing it for yourself. And then you kind of learn from those experiences, and then you can make of it what you need.”

8. If I could live anywhere, it would be …

“New Zealand. At some point I want to go back. It’s just so beautiful. Island life.”

9. I’m proud of myself because …

“Just my whole career in general. It’s not an easy sport, it’s not an easy kind of lifestyle to live. Coming back from the setbacks is something that I’m very proud of. It takes a strong mind, a strong mentality, to keep overcoming them and I think that’s something I will definitely carry with me.”

10. The thing I’m most excited to do now that I’m in Minnesota …

“I really want to go to that football stadium. It looks sick from the outside. I want to see that. I want to see our stadium, it looks cool as well. I can’t wait to go there. I have a few friends that are from here as well. It’s difficult now because everything is under snow, but once everything melts, I can kind of get a better idea of what the city is like, but I’ve heard it’s really nice and really cool. I’m excited to see it in the summer.”
