FC Dallas

Mannone and Opara Feature in the Team of the Week

MLS Week 19 Team of the Week

Minnesota United is represented in the MLS Team of the Week for the third-straight week, with multiple players being honored. Defender Ike Opara, who has featured in all three of those weeks, is joined by goalkeeper Vito Mannone for their role in the Loons’ clean-sheet win over FC Dallas.

Opara has now featured five times in the Team of the Week this year, tying Darwin Quintero in 2018 for the most in a single season. He was excellent at relieving pressure at the back to keep FC Dallas off the board at Allianz Field. He made seven clearances, three of those with his head, to break up the visitors’ attacking pressure, and made two key interceptions at the back. His attacking ability was on display once again, as he got on the end of set pieces throughout the game.

Making his first non-bench appearance in the Team of the Week, Mannone was one of the heroes on Saturday night for MNUFC. He made six stellar saves, including a stoppage time penalty kick stop that secured three points for the fourth consecutive league game. It was Mannone’s sixth clean sheet of the year, setting a new single-season record for the club.
