JUAN AGUDELO: 10 things you don’t know about me

Juan Agudelo

1. My hero is …

“I would have to say Nelson Mandela. Just what he went through. To be in jail for so long and stand up for something that he felt was strong, and was willing to sacrifice his time. Which is the most valuable thing — our time. So, for that, is pretty special.”

2. My pet peeve is …

“I actually just talked about this with my children. I have two girls. Yesterday, we went over all our pet peeves! Mine was when my kids leave food out that has the potential of smelling the apartment or house up.”

3. The personality trait I’m most proud of is …

“I would say my ability to connect with whoever. Meaning, whether they are from a different background, language, ethnicity. I feel like I can relate to anyone, with the way my life was brought up, how I’ve been multiple places around the world, born in a different country. I can relate to those people. So I think that’s a good quality that I have — I can bond with others very easily.”

4. My favorite family tradition is …

“Everyone usually opens their Christmas presents in the morning, but we do it at night at 12 a.m. I did that with my mother — I’m Colombian — so, it’s something that’s common in Colombia. But, here in the states, we do it with our kids. So everyone is just waiting for the countdown to hit 12.”

5. My everyday ritual is …

“I drink tea in the morning. That’s not really a ritual. But it happens. Everyday.”

6. The significance to my number is …

“I usually go with 12. It wasn’t available, so I just figured I’d do 2-1. Nothing much behind it. And I’m not a picky person, picky guy. I just try to do what I can on the field and whatever is on my back is on my back.”

7. My favorite meal is …

“It’s a Colombian dish. Very high on cholesterol. It’s called the Bandeja Paisa. It consists of rice, beans, avocado, sausage, pork belly, steak, egg – a sunny side egg on top of the rice – and plantains. It’s very good.”

8. The best piece of life advice I have ever received is …

“Nerves and pressure come from poor preparation.”

9. Something that’s on my bucket list is …

“Skydive. I’m terrified to, but with the way that I like to live my life, it’s like, I have to do it if I’m terrified of it.”

10. My favorite way to spend an off day is …

“I pride myself in being the best dad in the world. So I either take my kids to the mall or I’m a big bike rider, so take the kids on a bike ride to the park or something. I’m realizing Minneapolis is perfect for that … I’m shocked. I almost teared up when I was going through the park. It was so beautiful.”
