Miguel Ibarra

ACQUIRED: Signed by Minnesota United 1.7.2017 from Club Leon

Ibarra returned to Minnesota ahead of the 2017 season after a year and a half with Club Leon in Liga MX. During his earlier tenure with MNUFC (2012–15), he earned a pair of NASL Best XI appearances, a Golden Ball Award (MVP) and was the first U.S. lower-division player to be called up to the U.S. national team since 2005.

In the club's first year in MLS, he scored three goals and contributed four assists in 29 appearances (20 starts), including tallying two assists in the 2-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City en route to an MLS Team of the Week appearance in Week 10.

Ibarra first signed with the Loons in 2012. He had been drafted by the Portland Timbers in the MLS Supplemental Draft that same year, but was not signed by the club. In his first year as a professional, he helped Minnesota make its second-straight NASL championship appearance.

In October 2014, Ibarra became the first lower-division player to be called up to the U.S. national team since 2005, coming in as a late-game substitute against Honduras. He was called up for international duty four consecutive times, making three appearances — including one start — for his country.

Ibarra was transferred to Club Leon of Mexico’s Liga MX in June 2015, having played nine games for Minnesota that season. He made eight appearances for Leon in his first campaign, scoring once.

The winger played two years of college soccer at Taft College, where he was named Central Valley Conference MVP, before transferring to the University of California Irvine. With UC Irvine, he was named Big West Co-Offensive Player of the Year and first-team All-Big West as a senior, leading the team to its third NCAA tournament berth and Big West regular-season and tournament titles. Ibarra was also a two-time Offensive MVP at Lancaster High School and featured for club side Lancaster Rattlers.
