Career Summary

ACQUIRED: Traded from Montreal Impact to Minnesota United in exchange for right back Chris Duvall and General Allocation Money

Venegas is currently on loan with Deportivo Saprissa of Costa Rica.

Costa Rica international Venegas was first acquired by Montreal Impact from L.D. Alajuelense in August 2015. After featuring in 12 matches in his debut season in MLS, the attacker struggled to earn a starting spot in his first full campaign in the league, despite shining for his country at the 2016 Copa America Centenario and then against the United States in a November World Cup qualifier.

With MNUFC, Venegas made 12 starts (22 total appearances) during the 2017 campaign, scoring in the 4-2 victory over Real Salt Lake and the equalizer at Houston Dynamo. He often featured on the wing for Montreal, too, showing pace, flair and technique as one of the most dangerous attacking players off the bench.

Venegas was a key player for Costa Rica first-division club Alajuelense over the last two seasons he spent there, recording 15 goals and 10 assists in 58 regular-season matches. He helped the club win the 2013–14 Torneo de Invierno, registering two goals and three assists in 14 playoff games. During his career, Venegas has also played for Costa Rican clubs Puntarenas, Santos de Guapiles and Barrio Mexico.

He appeared in four 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup games and two out of three Copa America Centenario matches. Additionally, he was a part of the 2018 FIFA World Cup roster and featured in the 1-0 group-stage loss against Serbia and the 2-0 defeat to Brazil.
